Jody Lavender on Top of NASCAR East Series
Mooresville, NC (07/02/09) - Hartsville native
Jody Lavender is enjoying the best year of his racing
career. Jody started racing at age 16 in the Mini-Stock
class at the Florence I-95 and Myrtle Beach speedways.
Today he is racing in the NASCAR Camping World East
Series and is leading the points chase by a slim 18
points. He knows it won’t be easy but his goal is to
win the championship.
In the last race at New Hampshire Speedway, he finished
5th. The winner was driving a Joe Gibbs race car,
second place was a Michael Waltrip race car, third was a
Dave Davis race car, and 4th was the Richard Childress
race car. Jody said, “This is a very competitive series
and we are competing against some of the best teams in
racing. We don’t have a big sponsor and have only 1
full-time employee. We want to thank Jo-Jo Enterprises,
Hartsville Mini-Storage and some local H & R Block
offices for their support.”
Jody also owns “Custom Racing Chassis” in Mooresville,
NC where they build and repair race cars of all types.
Jody said, “I think my chassis business helps my racing
and I think my racing helps my chassis business. We
also have a small team with mostly volunteers but they
are very hard working and car owner, Jimmy Burgess,
wants this championship as much as I do. This is only
his second year in running a full series schedule but
he’s done a great job since. He lives and works in
Massachusetts and the race shop is in Maine. He keeps
the road hot back and forth.”
There are only 5 races remaining (Thompson CT,
Adirondack NY, Lime Rock CT, Loudon NH, and Dover, DE)
and according to Jody, “We’re having a good year and
with a little luck we will still be on the top at the
end of the season.”
