The Championship Breakdown: Myrtle Beach Speedway

USAR ProCup, Paul Warner (Oct. 5, 2007)   (Click Here for Original Article)

Myrtle Beach, SC - Round No. 2 of the Championship Series is in the books, and Gary St. Amant, who has been ranked No. 1 since the second race of the season, now finds himself looking up at Bobby Gill.

Gill, a 3-time Pro Cup champ, moved 29 points ahead of St. Amant with a sixth-place run at Iowa Speedway. St. Amant was taken out late in the race and finished 24th.

Matt Carter made the most gains at Iowa, jumping to third, 53 points behind Gill.

There are just three races left to decide the overall Hooters Pro Cup Champion, Miller Lite Rookie of the Year and the recipients of over $1,000,000 in purse and point funds.

Below is the top 20 in Championship Series points, an Iowa Review and a Myrtle Beach Preview.

Points ahead of 18th: 2
Point positions gained/lost at Iowa: -8

Iowa Review
Lavender was probably happy to get out of Iowa. The Pro Cup veteran was the last driver to qualify on time, finished 26th and dropped eight positions in points. The only good thing that happened is that his teammate, Jay Fogleman, finished third.

Myrtle Beach Preview
Lavender calls Myrtle Beach his home track, but it’s also the track that’s brought him the most disappointment. Lavender has had several near-misses at Myrtle Beach in various series, but he’s never been to Victory Lane. Nothing would be sweeter for him to make that inaugural trip to the winner’s circle at his home track, but there’ll be 35 other drivers standing in the way.

Best Finish at Myrtle Beach: 6th (6/25/05)
Starts at Myrtle Beach: 7
