Lavender Strong at Lake Erie
Durham, NC (August 2, 2007) - Jody
Lavender’s first trip in the Hooters Pro Cup
Northern Division to Lake Erie Speedway was very
exciting. He was spun out on the first lap and
had to go to the rear of the field. This was not
all bad because he was able to “short pit” and
able to go through the balance of the race
without having to make another pit stop. Jody
patiently worked his way through the field and
as the other cars made their schedules pit
stops, he was able to take the lead. |

After leading 21 laps, and battling for the race lead
with Benny Gordon, Jody got stuck behind a lapped car
and Benny was able to take the lead. Unable to get back
around Gordon, Jody was able to make a strong run for
second. Jody and Brandon Ward battled fiercely for
second. Jody was stronger off the corner and Brandon was
stronger in the corners. But with 35 laps left in the
race, Ward drove under Lavender in turn two and the cars
made heavy contact. Jody was able to regain control
after bouncing off the wall. The two banged each other
into turn three where contact was again made and Ward
went spinning. Both cars had to go to the rear of the
field after pit stops to repair damage. Jody was able to
finish 10th and Ward 8th.
After the race, Jody said, “I thought we would have had
a second place finish but it didn’t work out that way.
That’s several times we have run strong until late in
the race and then something happens.” As far as the
incident with Brandon, “I feel sure his opinion of what
happened and mine are not the same. We both wanted to
finish 2nd and both were driving aggressively on a short
track. The bad thing is neither one of us finished 2nd
and it hurt both of us in the points battle. But, that’s
behind us. We can’t change it and we’ll move on to South
Boston, VA for the final regular race. We have a good
team and a great sponsor in Greased Lightning. We are
professionals and intend to continue to conduct
ourselves in a professional manner. We will represent
Greased Lightning as professionals and a competitive
team that wants to win races.”
Lavender is a member of the “Clean Team Program”
sponsored by Greased Lightning and The Works. Eight
drivers compete for contingency awards at each series
race. The best qualifying driver and the highest
finishing driver each receive $250 each. A $25,000 end
of the season bonus will be paid to team members based
on points earned on the track and off the track for
charities and marketing work done on behalf of Greased
Lightning and The Works.
