Lavender Finishes 7th and Moves to 3rd in Points

Durham, NC (July 3, 2007) - Jody Lavender and his Greased Lightning Ford made their first trip to the Salem, Indiana Speedway last week. After the race, Jody said, “We’re satisfied with a 7th place finish but not happy with it. This place is like Darlington. You have to race the track and the competitors. But when you look at all the wrecked race cars here, we’re lucky to finish in the lead lap. I had never seen the track before and we missed our set-up.” Jody started 24th and finished 7th in a race where only about one-half of the field was around at the end. After the race, the infield looked like a “late model crash site”. Survival was the name of the game.

By finishing 7th, Jody moved from 4th to 3rd in the Northern division points battle. With only three races remaining in the Northern division, Jody said, “It’s going to be tough to win the championship but we’ll do our best. That was and still is our main goal. We still have three Northern championship races remaining – Motor Mile on July 14, Lake Erie on July 28, and South Boston on August 11 – to get the job done.”

At Salem, Jody won the Greased Lightning Clean Team award for the highest finishing team member at the finish. The “Clean Team Program” is sponsored by Greased Lightning and The Works. Eight drivers compete for contingency awards at each series race.

The best qualifying driver and the highest finishing driver each receive $250 each. A $25,000 end of the season bonus will be paid to team members based on points earned on and off the track for charities and marketing work done on behalf of Greased Lightning and The Works.
