Barenaked Lady to Occupy Jody Lavender’s Pit
 |
Durham, NC (June 19, 2007) - When Jody
Lavender brings his JFco Motorsports Greased
Lightning No. 4n Ford Fusion Hooters Pro Cup
machine down pit road for service on June 23,
he's going to find a Barenaked Lady waiting for
him.
Ed Robertson, guitarist and vocalist for the
popular rock band Barenaked Ladies, will be a
working member of Lavender’s pit crew at Myrtle
Beach (S.C.) Speedway, and the |
experience will be filmed for Robertson’s new
TV show on the OLN cable network, “Ed’s UP!”
The show features Robertson placing himself in
different roles to face the challenges and expose the
dangers and pressures of occupations other than “rock
star.” Once Robertson, an avid pilot, lands his seaplane
at mystery GPS coordinates he’s given to begin each
episode, he’ll discover all that the week has in store
for him.
After meeting Lavender and signing all the necessary
waivers, Robertson’s week includes training from PIT
Instruction & Training LLC (PIT) in Mooresville, N.C.
Operated by championship-winning crew chief and Emmy
nominated NASCAR TV analyst Jeff Hammond, PIT will train
Robertson to be a member of the over-the-wall pit crew
and provide other crew members for the weekend. Live
training with Robby Gordon Motorsports, Jody Lavender,
team meetings, and, if needed, physical therapy and
injury treatment await Robertson before traveling with
the team to Myrtle Beach for possible appearances with
the driver and usual hectic schedule that awaits
competitors on the USAR Hooters Pro Cup circuit.
The week will be a challenge for Lavender as well.
“Being a Southern Division race, I don’t get points and
I have to qualify on time,” said Lavender, who sits
fourth in the Northern Division only 65 points out of
the lead. “It’s going to be fun meeting Ed Robertson and
working with him all week, filming for his TV show and
all that stuff, but when it comes time to race, it’s
time to set all that aside. The race is the Greased
Lightning 200, so there’s more pressure because the race
sponsor also sponsors my car. And Myrtle Beach eats up
tires, so we’ll make more stops than usual. Pit stops
will be critical. I expect the team to be at its best;
he’s going to have to perform as well as the rest of the
crew.”
