Lavender Sings “No More Mr. Nice Guy” After Mansfield
 

Durham, NC (June 13, 2007) - Jody Lavender’s got nothing in common with shock-rock star Alice Cooper, but he was singing “No More Mr. Nice Guy” after the June 6 running of the Greased Lightning 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Park.

“The gloves are off,” said Lavender, driver of the JFco Motorsports Greased Lightning No. 4n Ford Fusion in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Sears Auto Center Northern Division. “I had a car that could have won the race, but instead finished 18th.” 

Lavender qualified 22nd, but wasn’t worried as his car was set up for the race. “The team worked hard to get this car back together after Peachstate, with help from Laughlin Performance,” Lavender said. “I knew we’d be good.”

And he proved it, quickly marching his way into the third position and racing in the top five most of the night.

But then the battle got rough. First he was run into the wall hard enough to knock the toe out of the car, which put extra strain on the right-front suspension.

“We were still in the top five at that point,” Lavender observed, “but the car went from loose to bad tight. I had to work the right front really hard.”

A little later in the race, while getting beat on for third position by a competitor he had just passed cleanly, Lavender’s right-front suspension broke and the tire blew.

“I was in a position to have a good finish and possibly win the race,” Lavender said. “And it would have been extra special since Greased Lightning sponsored the show. I know this is short track racing, but I try to race everybody clean and show them respect. Instead I get knocked around and knocked out of the race. And it hurt me in the points, dropping me from second to fourth. This was the third straight race I’ve been used as a ping-pong ball. I was spun out at Madison and knocked into the wall at Peachstate.”

Lavender’s next event is in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he’ll run outside of his division for no points with Pro Cup’s Aaron’s Southern Division.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Lavender said. I think perhaps I’ve been too nice on the track recently. I can race these guys any way they want to race.”
