The
Championship Breakdown
USAR ProCup, Paul Warner (October 24, 2006)
Myrtle Beach, SC - Only three races remain to
determine what Hooters Pro Cup Series driver will walk
away with $200,000 for being the 2006 Hooters Pro Cup
Champion. And that driver appears to be Clay Rogers.
After three races, Rogers has built a 103-point lead
over Shelby Howard. If Rogers goes onto win the title,
he will become just the second driver to win multiple
titles and the fourth driver to surpass the $1,000,000
mark in career earnings.
Although only one driver will claim the top prize, over
$800,000 will divided among the rest of the top 30 in
points, making every position crucial in the final three
races.
Below is a listing of the top-20 drivers in points after
the third race of the Championship Series, a Mansfield
Review and a Myrtle Beach Preview.
 |
18. Jody Lavender (No. 84s H&R Block Ford)
Finish at Mansfield: 4th
Championship Series Points: 410
Points behind 1st: 241
Points ahead of 19th: 8
Point positions gained/lost at Mansfield: +8
Season Avg. Finish: 14.6
Last Five Races Avg. Finish: 17.8 |
Mansfield Review
Lavender's streak of bad luck came to an end at Mansfield when he came home
fourth, breaking a three-race string of DNFs. Lavender tried to hold off
Fogleman late in the race, but he just didn't have the car to do it.
Myrtle Beach Review
Lavender will have a sea of purple-wearing fans at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Being from nearby Hartsville, S.C., Lavender spent time racing at Myrtle
Beach Speedway throughout the years. He hasn't had the best of luck at MBS
in Pro Cup, however, failing to post a top-five finish in five starts.
Best Finish at Myrtle Beach: 6th (6/25/05)
Avg. Finish at Myrtle Beach: 17.6 (5 starts)
