Lavender Looks Forward to Myrtle Beach

Mooresville, NC (October 23, 2006) - Many people look forward to going to Myrtle Beach for vacation and entertainment but for Jody Lavender, Saturday, October 28th is one of the most important races on the Hooters Pro-Cup series. It’s also the “home track” track for Jody who had several successful seasons at Myrtle Beach when he started his racing career. When asked about the “home-track advantage”, Jody said, “I don’t know that there is any advantage now. The track has changed so much since I began racing here. Also, the teams in this series are so good that it doesn’t taken them long to figure a track out. But, we also have a good team. There is an advantage to me in that I get to see family and friends that have supported me and followed me in my racing career and I’ll do all I can to make them proud. It’s always good to see and talk with them. There’s nothing I’d rather do than win at Myrtle Beach.”

When asked about the season, Jody said, “We have been much better than our record shows. We just haven’t been in the right place at the right time. For example, when we were at Myrtle Beach in June, we had a good car but we had a bad pit stop because the car pitted next to us got the tires mixed up and we ended up with one of his old tires on our car. We went down a lap and still had a good car until a car with brake problems ran into the back of us; put us into the wall, and out of the race.”

With only three races remaining in the National Championship – Myrtle Beach, South Georgia, and Lakeland Florida – Jody is 18th in points after a 4th place finish in the last race in Mansfield, Ohio. He jumped 8 points from 26th to 18th. The good news is that there are only 90 points from 18th up to 3rd so three good finishes could put Jody in a much better position.
