Lavender Jumps Into Top Five
 

Mooresville, NC (August 16, 2005) - Jody Lavender continued his hot streak in the Hooters Pro-Cup Series at Peach State Speedway with a 4th place finish Saturday night. Lavender now has a win, 4 top-five finishes, and 6 top-ten finishes in his last six races, and has moved up to 5th place in the Southern Division points, only 3 points out of 4th place. With only two races left in the regular season (Bristol, Tennessee on August 24 & Lakeland USA, Florida on September 3), Lavender says, "A top-five in the points would give us a big boost going into the five race National Championship, which begins on September 24 and ends November 26."

In the Peach State race, Lavender started on the outside pole with a qualifying time of 19.034, beside Mark McFarland in the Dale Earnhardt, Jr. car, who had a time of 19.024. Lavender took the lead on lap two and led much of the first half of the 250-lap race. He also battled for the lead until the end of the race, saying, "For most of the race, I thought we had the car to beat, but when we made our last pit stop with about 35 laps to go, we could only take two tires, and the car just wasn't good enough at the end. Maybe we should have used a different tire strategy, but overall we had a good night. We qualified second, led some laps, finished fourth, and moved to fifth in the points."
