Lavender Looking for Change in Luck at New Hampshire

Team Release (08/27/08)

Mooresville, NC - After finishing 12th in the NASCAR Camping World East Series race at the Mansfield Ohio Speedway, Jody Lavender is wondering what he can do to change his luck. Jody qualified 9th in Mansfield and had moved up to 6th by lap 30. The car was fast and running good. But, by the end of the race, he was in 12th and remained 12th in the points. Jody said, “I don’t know what we can do to change our luck. We have had some sort of problem in every race. In this race, we broke a sway bar which is something that very seldom happens.” He continued, “Maybe we can change our luck at New Hampshire. We have a new car ready and when we tested last week, it was very good. It probably is the best car I have ever driven. I hope and think this will be a big help. We have even painted the new car a different color and changed from a Ford body to Chevrolet.”

Lavender Struggles at Lime Rock

BUT LOOKS FORWARD TO MANSFIELD

Team Release (08/19/08)

Mooresville, NC - When the green flag dropped at the Lime Rock road course race in the NASCAR Camping World East Series, Jody Lavender knew he was in trouble. The car was an 8-year old car with an original 6-year old engine. It had been junked and stored in a dumpster and was not designed for a road course. The car was originally built for medium sized tracks and none of the changes made it any better.

When asked about the car after the race, Jody said, “We started with a junk car and we ended up with a junk car but it was the only car we had. We knew we couldn’t run up front but hoped we could finish in the top 15 or maybe the top 10 and stay in the top 10 in points.” He finished 23rd and dropped to 12th in the points.

Jody also said, “I really enjoyed driving the road course and had a lot of fun. But I could have had more fun if I’d had a ‘real’ road course car.”

The next race is at the Mansfield Ohio Speedway Saturday night and will be televised live on HDNET TV. It will also be replayed on Speedvision at a later date. Jody said, “Mansfield has always been one of my favorite tracks and we have run good there in the past. We have a good car ready to go and plan to be up front at the end. The JBR team also has a new car for us to run at New Hampshire and Dover. We were bad at Lime Rock but that’s in the past. We plan to be strong in the next four races.”

Lavender 5th at Adirondack, NY

Team Release (07/29/08)

Mooresville, NC - Jody Lavender continued to have strong runs with a 5th place finish at the Adirondack International Speedway in New York last weekend. He is now 10th in the NASCAR Camping World East Series points even though he did not compete in one race earlier in the year. Jody started 17th and moved up to 7th but two pit stops sent him back to the rear of the field. With less than 50 laps remaining, he worked his way from 23rd to 5th.

Jody said, “The car was great at the first of the race but then it got too tight. After two pit stops for adjustments, we got it back close to where it was at the first of the race. The longer we ran, the better it got but we ran out of laps. This is a tough race track and as usual, the competition was tough. We were lucky to stay out of all the wrecks and survive with the car in one piece. A lot of credit and thanks goes to car owner Jimmy Burgess, crew chief Todd Graffam, and all the crew members for helping us be competitive with our small operation.”

Cut Tire Drops Lavender
Team Release (07/23/08)

Mooresville, NC - Jody Lavender probably passed more cars than any driver in the NASCAR Camping World East Series at Nashville but he had to settle for a 16th place finish. He lost 3 laps in the pits on lap 34 of the 150 lap race when he cut a tire and had to pit under green. At the end of the race, he was still 3 laps down. All of the lead lap cars he passed were put back in front of him on the restarts after a caution and any car less than 3 laps down was the beneficiary of the Lucky Dog free pass.

After the race Jody said, “We had a good car on long runs but after we got 3 laps down, all we could do was run as hard as we could and hope for the best. It just wasn’t good enough with the caution situation.” Jody is tied with Jeffrey Earnhardt for 10th place in the points standings and the next race is at Adirondack NY this weekend.
